MISAC Northern California Chapter Meeting Minutes
October - 10/10/16 Chapter Meeting - Annual Conference
The meeting was convened at 8:00 AM in the Exhibit Hall
Tim Williamsen suggested setting up meeting dates, subjects ahead of time and the Chapter agreed this would be helpful to schedule out the meetings up to a year in advance.
Everyone in attendance took a couple of minutes to talk about their current initiatives:
Sudhanshu Tikekar (Santa Clara Valley Water Dist) - Ongoing work regarding IT strategy and policy.
Marilyn Crane (Fremont) - agrees with Tim that we need to suggest dates and subjects ahead of time
Jeff Gershaneck (Campbell) - also agrees that meeting dates and subjects should be scheduled ahead of time.
A suggestion was made to invite Sunday's keynote speaker, Mark Goodman, to the Northern Chapter
Guarav Garg (Santa Clara) - mentioned the strong value of the annual conference but mentioned his favorite aspect is seeing friends and getting caught up with the other conference attendees.
Steve Rodriguez (Mountain View) - mad a suggestion about the MISAC listserv and looking for a more digestable, easily engaged method of communication.
Roger Jensen (Mountain View) - made a suggestion to develop user or subject meetings at the next annual conference.
Tim Williamsen (Petaluma) - discussed SB272, the legislation that established the requirements for an enterprise catalog, potential upcoming changes, letters to cities and counties that are not compliant with SB272 and offering assistance to help them achieve compliance.
Vice President Nathaniel Roush discussed the need to nominate Chapter officers for 2017. He also highlighted the fact that Jasmine Frost had accepted a position with the City of Long Beach, leaving the position of Northern Chapter President vacant. According to chapter bylaws, Nathaniel will assume the position of President for the remainder of the year. The remaining chapter officer nominations for 2017 were received:
Nathaniel Roush & Carolyn Saputo nominated Kim Murray (Healdsburg) for Vice President
Nathaniel & Roger Jensen nominated Carolyn Saputo for treasurer
Nathaniel & Marilyn Crane nominated Scott Sanders for another term as secretary
Tim & Scott nominated Gaurav Garg as the chapter’s state board representative for a new three year term
Nathaniel - motion made and carried to approve the minutes from the September meeting held at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Tracy, CA.
Nathaniel - opened discussion about reimbursing MISAC annual conference registration for Chapter officers. Jeff Gershaneck - agrees that annual conference registration should be reimbursed; motion made by Bonnie Gawf (Monterey) and seconded by Shashi Ganjam (Fairfield) to include travel to annual conference in addition to the registration fees. The motion was approved by the membership.
Guarav – mentioned that the state board is working diligently on strategic planning for the association and several comments on the dedication and hard work being accomplished by state board were mentioned by the chapter membership.
Carolyn reported that the chapter has a $34,118.05 current balance.
Motion made, seconded and approved to close the meeting.
September - 9/16/16 Chapter Meeting and Amazon Fulfillment Center Tour
Chapter members who were able to attend the Amazon Fulfillment Center Tour were treated to a very interesting event as we learned more about the technology behind the OAK 4 facility. While this installation is an eighth generation Amazon facility, four new ninth generation facilities are being built in 2016 nationwide. We were amazed at the 23 miles of conveyance, 25 million items in stock, the technology that kept nearly 700 Kiva Robotics in motion at any given time and many, many more interesting facts! No one will look at their next Amazon package the same!
We enjoyed lunch and a brief presentation from the Amazon Web Services team after the tour. For those members wishing to learn more about AWS, please contact Lisa Swanson, our State & Local Government representative:

The motion passed by unanimous consent.
