New MISAC Agency Membership Available Starting on June 1, 2018

This January, MISAC’s Full Voting Members approved an amendment to the MISAC State Bylaws that establishes a new membership category: Agency Membership. The new membership category allows agencies to obtain a fixed-cost membership ($1,000) that covers all IT staff within the organization.

“MISAC sought a way to help larger agencies benefit from MISAC membership. With the new Agency Membership, it is going to be more affordable for larger agencies to sign up all of their IT staff for MISAC membership without having to pay $130 for every member,” said Tim Williamsen, MISAC President and City of Petaluma Information Technology Manager.

With an Agency Membership, agencies are allowed one Full Voting Member and an unlimited number of Associate Members; all members must work within IT for the same agency. The new membership category will be in effect for the 2018-2019 membership year, beginning Sept. 1, but agencies may join with an Agency Membership as early as June 1.

Per the MISAC State Bylaws, members who join during the last quarter of the membership year (June 1 - August 31) must pay full annual dues, but their membership will be effective until the end of the following membership year. This will allow agencies to join with an Agency Membership June 1 and continue their membership until the end of the 2018-2019 membership year.

“MISAC has great support from our vendors and suppliers, so we are able to offer the new Agency Membership without a negative financial impact to the association. This is a great opportunity for more IT professionals to become involved and benefit from MISAC’s resources,” said Brad Walker, MISAC Executive Director.

The Agency Membership dues amount is currently $1,000 annually; while for individual memberships, Full Voting Members and Associate Members both pay $130. About 60 percent of membership dues remain with the state organization to fund MISAC programs and services, while 40 percent of dues are directed to the corresponding chapter to fund local needs. The MISAC Board of Directors is responsible for setting dues for Agency Memberships as they currently do for Full Voting Members and Associate Members. The Board may vote to adopt a dues increase once every 12 months.

“Renewal dues billing for existing members will begin in June,” said Walker, “so when existing members renew, they will be able to renew as an Agency Member and add however many IT employees they want in addition to those who are already Full Voting and Associate members.”
