Call for Abstracts for 2018 MISAC Annual Conference!

The Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC) is proud to announce our 2018 Call for Abstracts

MISAC is proud to announce the 17th Annual Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC) Conference, IT’s Up To You.  MISAC is known to always present an informative and educational conference, including vendor exhibits. This year’s conference is scheduled for September 30th – October 3rd, 2018 at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa - Rancho Mirage. MISAC has built a solid reputation for providing high-quality educational and networking opportunities for public sector Information Technology professionals during the annual conferences. This year we will continue that tradition.

If you are knowledgeable and articulate in a subject matter area of interest and are willing to share your insights and real-world experience, you are invited to submit a proposal. Please note, we are looking for all types of topics including those given in the “soft skills” fields and by Special Districts, security and forensic specialists, business continuity specialists, etc.


June 8 - Abstract/proposal submission deadline

July 6 - Expected MISAC reply to submission

Aug 9 or sooner - Final notification



Proposals should be geared towards a specific technology or topic of interest and not be company promotional, sales or marketing driven. Proposals covering member interests will be given priority. A list of interests can be found below. Proposals should be submitted as a document (DOC or PDF) and include the following information:


Abstract submission guidelines:

The conference committee seeks presentations on diverse topics including those given by municipal and special district IT leaders, business process and technology consultants, open-data specialists, and computer security and forensic specialists. Proposals should be geared towards a specific technology or topic of interest and should not be company promotional, or be primarily sales or marketing driven. Proposal topics focusing on member interests will be given the highest priority. 


The standard presentation duration is 50-55 minutes, including Q&A. If you are submitting an abstract for a longer “workshop” – more in-depth soft skills, cybersecurity topics or demonstrations on how to build incident response plans, Office 365 Lessons Learned, or disaster recovery plans – we welcome those submissions. The conference committee expects to allow up to three 90-100 minute workshops into the agenda.

Emailed proposals should be submitted as a document (DOC or PDF) to All submissions shall include the following information:

  • Contact person for the presentation (name, email address, telephone number – only used to contact you regarding the proposal and not for conference publication)
  • Session title 
  • Session abstract/synopsis (up to 300 words describing main ideas of the session)
  • Approximate length of presentation (including Q&A)
  • First/last names of speaker(s)
  • Job titles and biographies of speakers
  • Audiovisual and Internet needs for session. Please note:  MISAC will furnish each breakout meeting room with a projector (on stand), screen, and internet access. Presenters will be responsible for all other A/V needs (including laptop).
  • A cleanly edited (checked for spelling and typos) proposal conforming to all of the guidelines above will be given priority

Please note:  MISAC does not pay per diem, honoraria, or expenses for open-call presentations submitted for review. MISAC membership and/or purchasing vendor booth exhibit space and/or paying fees to submit a proposal are not required. Although, one-day or full-conference registration is required of the chosen presenters once selected. Presentation supporting documentation (Powerpoint slides, handouts, etc.) will be required prior to final approval.
