Summer 2014

Congratulations to the Southern Chapter for hosting a successful Project Management Professional (PMP)  Bootcamp July 21 -24 2014 in Encinitas.  Attended by over 30 people, many found the workshop to be very useful in preparation for the PMP exam.  Special thanks to the City of Encinitas and Brian Lewton for helping to put together.

Sept 18, 2014

MISAC Summer Chapter meeting will be at the Orange County Mining Company restaurant located at 10000 S Crawford Canyon Rd,  Orange , CA 90069.

Topic: Recently one of our So-Cal chapter members put together a 1 day SCADA/Security/Network discussion group.  We are happy to be able to share one of the key speakers from this event at our next chapter meeting.  Mr. Salim Neino is the founder and CEO of Kryptos Logic.  He is a specialist  in vulnerability and exploitation research, mitigations, proactive security, incident response, and threat intelligence. Mr. Neino has been involved in numerous aspects of cyber security from leading red teams, advising defensive teams, to incident response and business continuity. Mr. Neino holds a black badge for his performance in Defcon 19 CTF hacking championships and is a key monthly presenter for the Water Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Water-ISAC).

Mr. Neino will be presenting on the current threat landscape, how we can increase our maturity and posture, a deep look inside threat intelligence such as breaches by malware and zero-day vulnerabilities, and an overview of vulnerable devices/services facing the internet.

In addition the state and local chapters have been working on modifying the bylaws so that each chapter is the same or similar.  The chapter representation will be sharing the proposed changes with the group and open up a group discussion for any questions/concerns/changes. The goal would be to bring this item before the chapter for a vote at the October chapter meeting in Garden Grove during the annual conference.

As always this meeting is open to all members and any perspective members. We only ask that you RSVP in advance so we can plan accordingly.
